Since releasing the photos from our collaboration with Lucid Captures, we have had a number of people ask us about our glowing lanterns. These show-stoppers were an easy DIY project that cost less than $25 apiece. And boy, did we get our money's worth!

Something even more magical happens with these lanterns when the sun sets. The warm glow they emit creates a romantic mood and they take on a look reminiscent of a jar of fireflies.
Creating this effect was actually very simple. We used 2 sets of battery powered Starry String Lights from Restoration Hardware. The lights use bright LEDs on a bendable strand of either copper or silver wire. The battery pack uses 3 AA batteries and is fairly waterproof which makes these lights ideal for outdoor use.
The lanterns were purchased at HomeSense (Canada's HomeGoods or T.J. Maxx) for just $9 each!
Simply place the battery pack(s) at the bottom of your lantern or mason jar, and cover. We chose moss, but fall leaves, flower petals or rocks would also look great! Then just bend the wire around the edges of your container. Voila, you're ready to glow!
